Thera-Sea Recharge – 6 Weeks Intensive Online Program starting Jan 2022

Understanding the fundamentals of psychoeducation and lifestyle medicine –

Free for Cornish Frontline Workers

With another festive season ahead that will be overshadowed by new restrictions, a new variant and concerns once again how to protect not only ourselves but our loved ones we’ve all witnessed a sense of fatigue given the on-going unpredictability of life that has been with us for most of the last 2 years.

Seeing ourselves and our friends and families struggle mentally it is no surprise to witness countless studies highlighting the tremendous impact on our mental health and on society as a whole. According to the Office for National Statistics that compared pre-pandemic data from 2020 with spring 2021, depression rates among adults have doubled since the start of the pandemic with adults in the most deprived areas of England more likely to experience depressive symptoms than adults in other areas of the country.

Despite increasing rates of depression, diagnoses by GPs decreased for the same period of time, suggesting that many people might not access medical help even though they might urgently need it. Hence, we are facing a national mental health crisis.

With services from the NHS but equally all other frontline workers – incl. fire, police and armed forces – being under tremendous and continuous pressure since the pandemic started we would like to offer our support for Cornish frontline workers specifically for FREE.

Thera-Sea Recharge is a brand new program led by Katy Griffin, a mental health nurse with over 13 years of experience, taking the most helpful and profound teachings of our rewilding weekend retreats and offering these via a 6 weeks online program that can be accessed from anywhere hence making it much easier to fit these into our busy daily lives.

The program will start on Monday, 31st January 2022 and run for 6 consecutive weeks every Monday evening from 6 – 7.30pm with the final session being held on Monday, 7th March 2022.

Each 1.5h session will entail expert input by Katy followed by group exercises and a small but effective homework task for the rest of the week. Hence, participants will be able to meet like-minded people and build a new support group that can help them beyond this course to keep on track of their newly learned well being skills, ensuring to keep up the new habits on an on-going basis.

During the 6 weeks course the following topics will be covered:

Week 1: Psychoeducation – Understanding the anatomy and physiology of life events & stress on the body

Week 2: How to process difficult emotions – learning positive coping strategies

Week 3: Lifestyle medicine: Sleep and relaxation

Week 4: Lifestyle medicine: Nutrition and exercise

Week 5: Lifestyle medicine: Relationships and purpose

Week 6: Q&A, reflection and goal setting: What are you going to implement in your life moving forward?

Besides this, Katy will be answering mental health related questions, provide advice on further reading material or if needed points of contact for on-going support.

Notes:

  • Places for this program are limited to 21 participants max. in order to ensure that we can run in it in the most effective way hence we’d encourage everyone interested to join to contact us asap!

  • The sessions will be run via Zoom. In addition, a Slack group will be created to share materials on a weekly basis and for participants to connect throughout the course.

  • We are aware that due to unforeseeable circumstances (illness etc), participants might not be able to join a session or 2 hence would like to offer the option of recordings for participants that missed out on a certain session – should the rest of the group be comfortable with this.

  • This is a group coaching program hence it is NOT suitable for people with severe mental health problems.

  • If you or a person you know is struggling contact your GP or call 111 for support.
